F1 Fantasy 2022: Canadian GP

We’re back for the Round Nine of the F1 2022 season and we’re heading to Montreal for the Canadian GP.

The team have to make the long trip from Azerbaijan all the way across the pond to North America for back-to-back race weekends.

The big question after last week end is, are Ferrari and Ferrari F1 Fantasy owners in trouble?

After a double DNF at Baku, the points both in the championship races and the F1 Fantasy league have started to dry up.

Charles Leclerc went from scoring a season high 50 points in Miami to only managing a total 32 points over the next three race weekends, while his teammate Carlos Sainz has struggled for longer and has scored 100 fantasy points less then Charles already this season.

In terms of having Ferrari selected as a constructor, after only scoring 3 Fantasy points last race weekend the Scuderia have now been overtaken by the a “struggling” Mercedes in the F1 Fantasy points.

The issues Ferrari have been seeing in recent weeks have not only led to recent issues but it will also lead to ever increasing chances of grid penalties due to extra changes needed for engine issues.

So, is it now the time to start looking for alternative options for those who have the Ferrari drivers and their team selected in their Fantasy teams?

Or will their performance and power still make them one of the standout points scorers during the Canadian GP and into other weeks ahead?

That being said, 55% of F1 Fantasy managers still have and believe the Scuderia are the constructor of choice.

There very strong rumours floating around the F1 world that this weekend could be the last for Nicholas Latifi and that he will be replaced by Oscar Piastri from the remainder of the season at least. This would be seen as a big move from Williams.

There have been many calls for Piastri to have a seat at the start of the season after impressing in his debut F2 season by winning the championship – he won F3 in his one and only season there also.

So, what does this mean for F1 Fantasy owners? Well, if this change does happen and if you have Latifi in your team, Piastri would take over as your driver within your team.

The fact Latifi is currently valued at $6.6M having dropped from $7M at the start of the season, adding him to your team this week or straight after this weekend could be a risk worth taking in order to have Piastri in your team at a guaranteed price of $6.6M.

I can see his prices growing if he manages to come in and out perform Alex Albon in coming weeks. This will work similar to how Magnussen replaced Mazepin at the start of the season and has since increased his value by $0.6M.

As we head into the Canadian GP we take another look at where you could look to pick up some extra points with streak bonuses.

This weekend at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit there is only one driver who can score extra streak bonus points and that is Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton has the chance to score double streak points for qualifying and the race should he manage to finish in the top 10 for both. It’s been a tough time for Mercedes and Lewis and the Canadian GP won’t be much different.

Lewis Hamilton

The proposing issues Mercedes have been facing and played a huge part in the decrease in straight line speed a Baku will be at large again for the Sliver Arrows but will these new FIA changes be advantageous for them?

Is the risk of bringing Lewis into your team worth it for the chance at double streak bonuses?

Apart from Lewis having the chance to earn streak points this weekend, both Ferrari and Red Bull have their chances to earn extra streak points for their owners.

Ferrari will earn theirs should both their drivers reach and Red Bull will have the chance for more points should both their drivers end the race in the top 10 come Sunday evening.

Things are hotting up in the Fansbet Blog F1 Fantasy league. There currently is just over 200 point separating the top 10 teams and not one person has yet been able to be the top points scorer for more than one week in a row.
